or Amanda Hadicke Schweighart, a 2003 Arkansas City High graduate, no two days at the Memphis Zoo are the same. As the Curator of Africa, Northwest Passage & Teton Trek, Amanda oversees the care of iconic animals like elephants, giraffes, and sea lions. From helping deliver a breech-born giraffe calf to leading conservation efforts in Botswana, her work is as rewarding as it is demanding. Want to know how Amanda went from volunteering as a teen to saving giraffes and working with elephants across the globe? On October 30, 51 Arkansas City High School students attended the "Build My Future" event in Park City, gaining hands-on experience in construction and service industries. Guided by ACHS staff, students explored high-paying career paths that don’t require additional training beyond high school, connecting with industry professionals and learning valuable skills.

ACHS students Genevieve and Gianna Herrera recently joined KU’s "Doc For A Day," gaining hands-on medical experience. They reconnected with ACHS alum Pierce Klaassen, now a second-year med student helping lead the program. We’re proud to support their journeys in healthcare!
